NEWS! --- (September 8, 2010) Lftp Updated Lftp, version 4.0.10, packages have been added. Lftp is command line file transfer program. It supports FTP, HTTP, FISH, SFTP and FILE (local FS) protocols. GNU Readline library is used for input. Low level stuff supported: ftp proxy, http proxy, ftp over http, opie/skey, fxp transfers, automatic retrying on non-fatal errors and timeouts, ipv6, socks, http/1.1, sftp v3-4. (Solaris 8-10)

NEWS! --- (September 7, 2010) Gengen Added Gengen packages, version 1.4.2, have been added. GNU Gengen (GENerator GENerator) is a tool that, starting from a parameterized text, called template, generates a text generator that can substitute parameters with values.

NEWS! --- (September 5, 2010) Parallel Updated Parallel packages, version 20100906, have been added. GNU Parallel is a shell tool for executing jobs in parallel using one or more machines.

NEWS! --- (September 5, 2010) Ldns Added Ldns packages, version 1.6.6, have been added. Ldns is used to simplify DNS programming. Included in the package is the dig-like program drill and other example programs.

NEWS! --- (August 29, 2010) Ddrescue Updated Ddrescue, version 1.13, packages have been added. GNU ddrescue is a data recovery tool. It copies data from one file or block device (hard disc, cdrom, etc) to another, trying hard to rescue data in case of read errors.

NEWS! --- (August 14, 2010) Freetype Updated Freetype packages, version 2.4.2 have been added. FreeType 2 is a software font engine.

NEWS! --- (August 12, 2010) Sudo Updated Sudo packages, version 1.7.4p2, have been added. Sudo (superuser do) allows a system administrator to give certain users (or groups of users) the ability to run some (or all) commands as root while logging all commands and arguments. These packages (except for Solaris 2.5) have pam support.

NEWS! --- (August 11, 2010) IPerf Updated Iperf, version 2.0.5, packages added. Iperf is a tool for measuring internet bandwidth performance.

NEWS! --- (August 6, 2010) Nano Updated Nano GNU nano (Nano's ANOther editor, or Not ANOther editor) is an enhanced clone of the Pico text editor. Version 2.2.5 has been added.

NEWS! --- (August 5, 2010) Gif2png Added Gif2png packages, version 2.5.2, have been added. The gif2png program converts files from the Graphic Interchange Format to Portable Network Graphics.

NEWS! --- (August 2, 2010) Socat Updated Socat, version 1.7.1.3, has been added. Socat is a relay for bidirectional data transfer between two independent data channels.

NEWS! --- (August 1, 2010) Ascii Added Ascii packages, version 3.8, have been added. Ascii is a utility that recognizes many different ways of naming an ASCII character (hex, octal, binary, decimal, C escape, ISO character table pair, slang names, and others) and prints out all the equivalents.

NEWS! --- (August 1, 2010) Pipebench Added Pipebench packages, version 0.40, have been added. Pipebench is used to measure the speed of stdin/stdout communication.

NEWS! --- (July 25, 2010) Dwdiff Updated Dwdiff packages, version 1.8.1, have been added. Dwdiff is a front-end for diff that works at the word level instead of the line level. This package does not yet have unicode support. (Solaris 2.6-10 only)

NEWS! --- (July 24, 2010) Siege Added Siege packages, version 2.70, have been added. Siege is an http load testing and benchmarking utility.

NEWS! --- (July 24, 2010) Multitail Updated Multitail, version 5.2.6, packages have been added. Multitail lets you view one or multiple files in a way similar to the tail program, but in multiple windows.

NEWS! --- (July 24, 2010) Tcpslice Added Tcpslice packages, version 1.2a3, have been added. Tcpslice is a tool for extracting portions of packet trace files generated using tcpdump's -w flag.

NEWS! --- (June 20, 2010) Diffstat Updated Diffstat, version 1.53, packages have been added. Diffstat reads the output of diff and displays a histogram of the insertions, deletions, and modifications per-file.

NEWS! --- (July 19, 2010) Ack Added Ack, version 1.92, packages have been added. Ack is a perl program written as a replacement for grep.

NEWS! --- (July 19, 2010) Subversion Updated Subversion is an alternative to the CVS version control system. It has been updated to version 1.6.12. This is built with apache 2.2.15 in mind. (Solaris 8-10)

NEWS! --- (July 13, 2010) Libpng Updated Libpng, version 1.2.44, packages have been added. The PNG library is a collection of routines used to create and manipulate PNG format graphics file.

NEWS! --- (July 13, 2010) Plzip Added Plzip, version 0.6, packages have been added. Plzip is a massively parallel (multi-threaded), lossless data compressor based on the LZMA algorithm, with very safe integrity checking and a user interface similar to the one of gzip or bzip2. Plzip uses the lzip file format; the files produced by plzip are fully compatible with lzip-1.4 or newer.

OpenSSL is an open source toolkit implementing the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL v2/v3) and Transport Layer Security (TLS v1) protocols as well as a full-strength general purpose cryptography library. These packages are provided for those who cannot or do not want to update to the 1.0.x packaes.

NEWS! --- (June 15, 2010) John Updated John packages, version 1.7.6, have been added. John the Ripper is a fast password cracker. Its primary purpose is to detect weak Unix passwords. 64-bit versions are available for SPARC/Solaris 8-10 and x86/Solaris 10.

Introduction

Welcome to the archive of pre-compiled free software for Oracle/Sun Solaris 2.5, 2.6, and 7-10 operating systems. This project is an extension of an effort that has been providing Solaris software for both SPARC and Intel architectures since 1994. It is an outgrowth of the SunSITE project.

You will see a list of the programs ported to Solaris 2.5, 2.6, 7, 8, 9, and Solaris 10 for SPARC and Intel/AMD processors in the frame to the right. Select your architecture first, then the programs available will be listed in the window at the lower right. Click on the program you want and it will appear in the center windows. These lists will be updated frequently, so check back often.

Before you use any of the programs here, PLEASE read the documents at the links to the upper left, especially the Downloading/Installation, and FAQ links. You will save yourself a lot of time and email if you know what to do with the resources here before you download anything.

I have added links File Sizes and MD5 Checksums links that contain all the file sizes in bytes and the results of running the md5 program on the files.

The FTP/Mirror Sites link, which is updated periodically, will take you to other sites that contain some or all of the information given here. Some of these sites do not update very often, so you may want to check back here periodically.

I have included a page on how the packages here were created. This Creating Packages has proven useful to a lot of other system administrators and those who want to distribute software in the pkgadd format.
